Brain-inspired Intelligence (BI) is the science and technology of intelligence inspired by brain science. BI research is grounded in deep exploration of the "first principles" of biological intelligence — drawing on the principles and working mechanisms of the human brain's perceptual-cognitive neural networks to propose and engineer intelligence frameworks, algorithms, models, and computing systems that simulate and realize the core capabilities of the human brain.

The scientific and technological goal of BI is to construct structures and functions analogous to biological brains on both silicon and carbon substrates, with applications spanning intelligent chips, computing systems, robotics, brain-computer interfaces, and brain medicine.

The Origin of the Universe

13.8 billion years ago, the Big Bang occurred. This is the beginning of all historical dates and the start of the creation story.

Earth, due to its special favorable position in the solar system, nurtured abundant life. From bacteria to single cells, from single cells to complex life, this journey carries 4.6 billion years of Earth's history.

Over the long course of time, creatures in the transition from ape to human learned to make tools through the long-term use of natural tools. Tool making means conscious activity through thinking, and this conscious initiative is the most important distinction between humans and animals, a leap in the transformation process from ape to human, marking the end of the transition period from ape to human, and the development of humans entered the stage of fully formed humans.

The Neogene Period

The Neogene is the second period of the Cenozoic Era. It began 23 million years ago and lasted for 21.4 million years. It includes the Miocene and Pliocene epochs, and is one of the few periods in geological history that experienced large-scale glacial activity. It was also an era of highly developed mammals and angiosperms, with the emergence of humans being the most prominent event of this era. Since the Neogene, most of the biological world has been more similar to modern times.

Human Evolution and Brain Development

During human evolution, human brain capacity continued to increase. Scientists' research on ancient human skull fossils reveals the development of the human brain. Over the course of 2 million years of evolution, human brain volume tripled, especially during the period from 800,000 to 200,000 years ago. To adapt to new environments and frequent climate changes, the brain achieved astonishing growth, with a significant increase in the neocortex responsible for planning and decision-making.

Because of this progress, humans began to create various civilizations and complex social behaviors, achieving brilliant accomplishments.

Human Intelligence

Human intelligence is the wisdom and ability of humans to understand and transform the world. 'Intelligence' mainly refers to human cognitive ability; 'Capability' mainly refers to human action ability, including various skills and correct habits. Human 'intelligence' and 'capability' are combined and inseparable. Human activities such as labor, learning, and language communication are all the unity of 'intelligence' and 'capability', and are unique intelligent activities of humans.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that attempts to understand the essence of intelligence and produce a new kind of intelligent machine that can respond in a way similar to human intelligence. Research in this field includes robotics, speech recognition, image recognition, natural language processing, and expert systems. Since its birth, artificial intelligence has become increasingly mature in theory and technology, and its application fields have continued to expand. It can be imagined that the technological products brought by artificial intelligence in the future will be a 'container' of human wisdom. Artificial intelligence can simulate the information process of human consciousness and thinking. Artificial intelligence is not human intelligence, but it can think like humans and may even exceed human intelligence. People engaged in this work must understand computer knowledge, psychology, and philosophy.
